Bordeaux (France)
INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL
Musical Écran is France’s leading festival dedicated exclusively to music documentaries. Held each year in the vibrant city of Bordeaux, the festival transforms the city into a meeting point for filmmakers, musicians, and music lovers from around the world.
For one week, Musical Écran celebrates the power of music on screen, presenting more than 30 outstanding documentaries from across the globe. Screenings are followed by engaging discussions with directors and guests, creating unique opportunities for dialogue between artists and audiences.
The festival’s main venue is the elegant Théâtre Molière in the heart of Bordeaux. In addition, screenings take place in emblematic cultural spaces across the city, including Megarama cinemas, the Bibliothèque de Mériadeck, and MECA, reinforcing the festival’s strong connection to the local cultural landscape.
In November 2026, Musical Écran will celebrate its 12th edition, continuing its commitment to showcasing bold, creative, and socially engaged music documentaries. The festival’s competitive section highlights emerging and established filmmakers, awarding two prestigious prizes: the Audience Prize and the Young Audience Prize.
Beyond the festival week, Musical Écran is deeply committed to cultural outreach. Throughout the year, the team develops educational and participatory projects with middle and high school students, as well as young people in detention centers and educational institutions. These initiatives use music documentaries as a powerful tool to explore contemporary social issues, including feminism and LGBTQ+ identities, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and inclusion.
